Our unique olive oil originates from an olive grove in Izmir, Turkey - one of the oldest cities in the Mediterranean region that has been at the forefront in olive oil production over the last 5,000 years. The region is home to the ruins of the ancient Ionian city – known as the 'olive oil' city of the 6th century and has a history of olive oil production that is as old as civilization itself.
Our olive grove dates back to over 5,000 years and has been passed down from one generation to the next. The grove is rumored to have some of the oldest trees in the region, producing some of the most unique tasting olives exclusively cultivated in Turkey.
The flavorsome olives used in the centuries old manufacturing process of our oils and soaps are known as the Ayvalık and Gemlik olive types.
Ayvalık, a seaside town on the northwestern Aegean coast of Turkey known for being home to the country’s fruitiest, smoothest and most golden-delicious version of the liquid condiment. This area, on the north-eastern shores of the Aegean is said to be equaled only by Crete and Tuscany for the ideal climate, the perfect soil conditions and the right hill elevation for growing olives. The greenish purple olives packed with health benefits have been cultivated here since the ancient times and used in all the finest aspects of civilized life, from sacred offerings, to beauty rituals and skin nourishment, and of course on the table where its magical qualities can heighten even the humblest ingredient into a delicacy. Avalyik olive types typically have a buttery texture with a fruity and grassy peppery finish.
The name Gemlik, which comes from the Zeytinbagi area of Northern Turkey, Port of Gemlik - one of the busiest import harbors in Turkey and is renowned for its small to medium-sized black olives that is high in oil content with a rich earthy taste. The Gemlik olives are easily separated from the pit and is typically known as the ‘breakfast’ olive. Our Gemlik Olives are typically harvested in November to ensure perfect conditions and are all hand-picked, with only the best used in the oil making process.
